"By maintaining a position within the market that
is at once sceptical, or critical, and co-opted, functional or viable,
artists run the risk of being reduced to employees in the creative
industry, and the line is fine between Tracey Emin’s bed and Tracey Emin’s
new line of bed linen for the masses, a branded commodity on a par with
Laura Ashley tea towels. But it is in running the risk, confronting the
alien invasion and accepting the job on the taskforce, that art regains its
value outside the confines of the artworld. Instead of saying no to the
market, artists need to set up their own institutions and strategically
place themselves in the system positively rather than by exclusion".
Pil and Galia Kollectiv are London
based artists, writers, curators and lecturers working in collaboration. They
work primarily in film and video, exploring the relationships between
modernist art and contemporary popular culture. They curated DaDaDa:
Strategies against Marketecture, at temporary contemporary gallery, London in 2004 and
Turn to the Left, a fashion show by artists, at 291 Gallery in August 2005.
Their current project is Modern Lovers, and exhibition of contemporary art
practices in dialogue with modernism. Their writing has recently focused on
the tension between art, democracy and capitalism. In attempting to map out
the difficulties of positioning oneself as an artist between the poles of
the free market and government funding, they seek to outline new modes of
operating, or strategies, for an independent art practice. Drawing on
political, philosophical and art historical writing, they hope to formulate
a new vocabulary for understanding visual culture today.
Ronen Eidelman is a journalist, graphic designer and activist. Editor of
“Maarav” , an
on-line magazine devoted to art, culture and media. Co-founder of several
journals and magazines as “42 Maalot”. “Khan”, and “Od!”. Visual
communication consulter and designer for the non profit sector. Teaches
visual communication at different art colleges.

פיל וגליה קולקטיב הם אמנים מבוססים בלונדון. פ&ג קולקטיב עוסק גם בכתיבה,
באוצרות ובהוראה. התחום המרכזי בו הם פועלים הוא הפילם והוידיאו, כשהם בוחנים
את היחסים בין אמנות מודרניסטית לבין תרבות פופולרית עכשווית. בין הפרוייקטים
שהם אצרו אפשר למנות: 'דא-דא-דא: סטרטגיות נגד Marketecture' בtemporary contemporary

בלונדון ב2004, ו'פנה שמאלה', מופע אפנה של אמנים, בגלריה 291, באוגוסט 2005.
כעת עובדים בפרויקט "Modern Lovers', תערוכה על פרקטיקות
אמנות עכשוויות המנהלות דיאלוג עם המודרניזם. כתביהם האחרונים עוסקים במתח
שבין אמנות, דמוקרטיה וקפיטליזם. בניסיון למפות את הבעייתיות שבלהעמיד את עצמך
כאמן, ביו הקטבים שמציעים השוק החופשי ותקציבי הממסד, מחפשת הקולקטיב מודלים
חדשים לפעולה, או סטרטגיות לפרקטיקה אמנותית עצמאית. תוך נגיעה בכתיבה
פוליטית, פילוסופית, ואמנותית ביקורתית הם מצפים ליצור מערכת מושגים חדשה
להבנת התרבות החזותית של ימינו.
רונן אידלמן הוא עיתונאי, מעצב גרפי ואקטיביסט. עורך ומנהל של "מארב" , מגזין מקוון לאמנות,
תרבות ומדיה. יועץ ומעצב לתקשורת חזותית לארגוני איכות סביבה, חברה ואמנות.
פעיל בארגוניים סביבתיים, חברתיים ואנרכיסטים שונים. מרצה לתקשורת
חזותית במכללות לאמנות. היה מייסד שותף ועורך בכמה כתבי-עת, ובהם "42
מעלות", "כאן" ו"עוד!".
